John has practised permaculture for over 10 years and designed the property. Hong is an Australian-qualified therapeutic nutritionist. Both originally worked in IT. Our farm is located on the NSW Central Coast, Australia – a 40-minute drive north of Sydney.
Originally from northern China, Hong immigrated to Australia alone just before the turn of the millennium, riding the IT boom. She settled down here, found John, a man with similar interests, and together they developed the Werks Farm.
John, originally from eastern France, was exiled from prosperous Europe to this lonely southern continent at the turn of the millennium, just as the IT boom was about to collapse. Unexpectedly, he met Hong, a fellow IT worker and a farmer at heart. His six-month exile turned into a permanent residence. Like many 9-to-5 workers in large companies, he toiled in the corporate world for over twenty years, experiencing its ups and downs.
We’ve found our purpose here, in a life in close connection with nature and the land.
